Treat Yourself Like a Dog
by Jessica Delaney, Principal, Engagement + Communications
I am not sure about anyone else, but it’s a really crazy season for me. Everyone seems to want to engage everyone before the holidays. It feels like every day the speed gets turned up a little more. So when I came across Gretchen Rubin’s podcast (link here) entitled Treat Yourself Like a Dog, I was curious. The premise is simple: would you treat your dog like you treat yourself?
Typically, people give their dog good food, love and attention, take them for walks and ensure they are well socialized. If there’s something wrong with your dog you take them to the vet on the double. And yet, we tend to not treat ourselves nearly half as well. We can lean towards eating “garbage” food, just working and not walking, and socializing… Ha, that’s sending a quick text while in the loo.
So, with only six good “engagement” weeks before the holidays kick in and engagement tends to wind down, I would encourage you to treat yourself like a dog. Get some rest, eat healthy food and go for a walk. And if you don’t have a dog, find someone who does and that can be your socializing too.
