Successful engagement to the government was a  simple meeting checked box. Successful engagement takes investment in time in building and establishing a trusting relationship. As in any relationship, you start by spending time together at a grassroots, basic ground level foundation. Early and often. Live amongst each other, learn and understand the great and not so great things about each other. All involved be open and honest about what the needs, the wants and the desired outcomes, the bottom lines are. Work hard together to achieve that. Have local Indigenous peoples within the entity to understand that worldview and articulate that to the Indigenous groups and vice versa. Ongoing dialogue and immersing into each others culture and ways of being. At the very least, throw the agenda out and attempt to understand the nature of each other.
