Survey Says: Virtual Academy

by Jessica Delaney, Principal, Engagement + Strategic Communications

Thank you to everyone who took our survey. Congrats to Katie who is the winner of the goodie bag that will be shipped out this week.

Here’s what we heard for every training option.

  1. Technology matters; make sure the technology works
  2. The training is must be engaging; consider using breakout groups
  3. Give very clear direction
  4. Provide strong visual cues
  5. Share information well in advance
  6. Where possible allow self-directed work (homework)
  7. Have video content
  8. Support various learning styles

After that, people had different opinions about scheduling. We heard from the “stagger things –  life is crazy people”, to the “bang it out and get it done people.”

Base on this, we have decided to provide two virtual academies – same content, different timing.

Express Academy – 20 hours completed over five consecutive days (Monday – Friday)

If you want to “get’r done” this is the format for you. You will need to dedicate time for two live sessions each day for one week, as well as some self-directed time to complete readings and assignments.

  • Two, two-hour sessions each day, one morning and one afternoon
  • Reading and assignments in between sessions
  • Session 1: 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Pacific Time
  • Session 2: 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Pacific Time

Extended Academy – 20 hours completed over eight days (two weeks/Monday – Thursday)

If you have a lot going on and are not sure if you can dedicate time for two sessions daily, this is the format for you. You will need to dedicate time for one live session four days a week, for two weeks, as well as some self-directed time to complete readings and assignments.

  • One two-hour session each day, in the morning
  • Reading and assignments in between sessions
  • Sessions will be daily from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Pacific Time
  • Week 1 and 2 will have sessions Monday through to Thursday

Thank you so much for all your input. It is really appreciated on behalf of our upcoming online learning participants.

Delaney is committed to providing a quality learning experience online and, as always, to delivering engaging, fun and purposeful skills-based learning.
